Scouting began as a military alternative for survival. The worldwide Scout Movement founded by Robert-Baden Powell, taught soldiers how to survive in the wilderness. During early times, scouting was primarily composed of outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and sports.
Baden-Powell used every ounce of knowledge he had learned in outdoor camping and survival. Some of his protégés, young boys who took part in his early day conquests during the Second Boer War, helped Baden-Powell during his stay in South Africa.
The boys assisted the little town of Mafeking in South Africa during the Second Boer War. Baden-Powell made use of various survival tactics that helped repel the siege started by a larger Boer army. After the war, Baden-Powell used his experience to build an organization called the Scouting Movement.
Over the years, the Scouting Movement helped increase its male and female participants to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. This is because of the combination of activities, which maintains the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of its scouts through invigorating outdoor activities.
What is more important with scouting is its logo. The eponymous arrowhead logo is a badge that signifies allegiance to the movement. Since 1907, scouts continue to contribute to society’s growth through fund-raising and assistance to people struck by natural disasters.
The development of scouting worldwide gave birth to the following scout logo samples, which truly signifies a trueborn scout and leader:
A silhouette of a boy or girl scout saluting – In respect to their superiors and trainers, boy or girl scouts pay their respects with a snappy salute. The form is similar with a private saluting his army officer. Baden-Powell was with the military before he started the Scouting Movement, and incorporated the same hand in eyebrow salute.
Wilder beasts – Scouts patrol the wilderness for any harmful beasts that terrorize the area occupied by defenseless civilians. Scouts then report cases of animal violence to their superiors. The logo often takes shape in the form of a grizzly bear or a cougar. Although scouts limit their activities within the parameters of hiking and backpacking, some will risk their lives for such responsibilities.
Badge of loyalty – A scout wears his/her badge that signal his/her loyalty to the camp. The badge contains elements related to the scout camp, and distinguishes itself from other worldwide scout unions. The badge depicts objects such as a tree stump, a grizzly bear footprint, or anything that have something to do with scouting.
Scouting Movement founder – The ultimate form of respect is to honor the man who helped raise scouting as a legitimate organization. A variety of scout logos shows Baden-Powell as the mind behind scouting, and honors him with a posthumous insignia.
