Learning how to create a logo is no walk in the park. Brainstorming, designing, and implementing the logo eat up a lot of time. Even the best logo designers find it hard to produce a compelling emblem of corporate identity within hours. Sometimes, the process of logo making takes until a week. The process is that complicated.
However, for individuals who want to design a logo just for personal entertainment, consider the following tips:
- Understand what a logo is – Familiarize yourself with a logo. What does it represent? What does it do to companies? How can it help you as an individual? Designing a logo as a hobby is an interesting creative avenue, since you are not restricted with a limited design scope. This step is just an orientation to bigger, boundless possibilities.
- Sketch the logo with a pen and paper – As a neophyte logo designer, you will be making a lot of mistakes. When we say a lot, hundreds of papers will fill your garbage bin. This step triggers creative nerves to function properly. Erasing lines, adding vectors, and shading opens up new design concepts. Sketching is a safe way to identify the potential of a hand drawn logo.
- Copy existing logos – If you cannot come up with a unique logo, copy someone else’s work. This is not recommended for professionals since logos are subject to trademark rules and plagiarism. While you are copying an already existing logo, your hands will feel the groove and rhythm of drawing an actual piece of corporate piece. Do it for about a week. Your hands will soon get the hang of drawing intricate shapes and font styles.
- Practice color application – Apply colors on your logo. Do not be afraid to make mistakes. Colors merely give life and animation to the logo. Equip an eye for detail during the process. See what color fits a certain design and what color must be shunned.
- Read books about the basics in designing logos – Indulge on books catering to the basics of designing logos. Learn from written tutorials and from the author himself/herself.
- Watch Youtube videos, instead – Youtube videos provide comprehensive, blow-by-blow steps on how to create basic and advanced logos. Watch amateurs and professionals do their thing and learn from their tips and secrets.
- Consult a logo designer – Finally, ask a legitimate logo designer for help. Their expertise and wide knowledge when it comes to designing logos may prove to be vital for your cause.
